I was DQ’d from Air Force 5 years ago because I had a high blood pressure reading. Can I still join?

Question by Hello H: I was DQ’d from Air Force 5 years ago because I had a high blood pressure reading. Can I still join?
I have no history of high blood pressure, but when I went to MEPS 5 years ago, they DQ’d me because my reading was slightly out of range. I was so surprised.

I have always had normal blood pressure prior to going to MEPS, and it is been normal in the past 5 years.

I have no other medical history or condition. Can I still join the Air Force?

How exactly does high blood pressure cause kidney failure?

Question posed by Goobery: How exactly does high blood pressure cause kidney failure?
I heard that it can cause Kidney failure. How and why? What does our blood pressure have to do with the kidney’s? All I know is that our kidneys filter out toxins and if they don’t filter out properly that can cause high blood pressure. but other then that I don’t know.

Most detailed answer:

Answer by krazegurl_ds
The Kidneys contain a part called the Glomerulus that is the filter part of the kidney it is made up of thousands of microscopic blood vessels like capillaries. When you B/P is to high or stays slightly high for to long it strains these tiny blood vessels and causes then to weaken and be damaged before there time. This is why if you have hypertension you will be put on B/P meds to help save you kidneys or at least make them last longer.

Also heres a link to a picture of the inside structure of the kidney, notice all those blood vessels in there, that’s why high B/P messes up your kidneys.

What is the difference between high and low blood pressure and high and low blood sugar?

A question asked by Lauran: What is the difference between high and low blood pressure and high and low blood sugar?
I’m asking bc right now I’m feeling shaky, light headed…. I just don’t feel right, it’s hard to explain what I’m feeli.
I remember before someone told this is probably high (or low) blood pressure… or maybe they said blood sugar…. I can’t remember now.

I’m really not feeling well and am wondering if there is something I can do to fix this feeling.

Answer by His_1Lady
My best advice for you is to eat something… Better safe than sorry! High blood pressure (Hypertension) people usually complain of headaches. Low blood pressure (Hypotension) people complain of dizziness when rising to a standing position Low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) there are usually complaints of shakiness and dizziness.

I would seek medical advice so that way you can be tested and properly treated if necessary!

Can high blood pressure and cholesterol cause pain all over my body?

Question posed by Natalie: Can high blood pressure and cholesterol cause pain all over my body?
I have high blood pressure and cholesterol in which I take medication for both. I experience constant pain all over my entire body espesially in my back and neck and it is all the time and have had this for the last few months the worse. I was not injured so I am wondering if those problems could cause pain or if it could be something else.

Answer by dutoitwessel
I you say you have pain in your back, make sure its not the kidneys. Do you drink alcohol often? It can lead to fermentation and blood pressure pills and stuff dont work well with that. Causes stifness of the body and pain in muscles. So check what you drink and eat.

How do I find out if my mother has high blood pressure or low blood pressure?

low blood pressure
by zJMac

A question asked by Aint No Bugs On Me: How do I find out if my mother has high blood pressure or low blood pressure?
She’s lying in bed right now, unable to get up because if she does her head will spin and she will be so dizzy and nauseous that she will want to lie back down. She’s only 51 years old, and I’m quite worried about her.
These are her symptoms:
-dizziness
-nausea
-from time to time head hurts; it’s the kind of hurting like your skull’s too small and is tight on your brain
-a little congestion
-head spins

She says that it’s only in the head; nothing is wrong with her other parts. Please say if it is low blood pressure or high blood pressure. IF YOU DON’T KNOW, DON’T SAY ANYTHING. I DON’T WANT MY MOTHER TO SUFFER BECAUSE SOMEONE GUESSED.
Only people who know what they’re talking about answer, PLEASE. Thank you very much
Yes she smiles plenty and when she speaks she sounds like she has a cold or she had a bad night =)

P.S. She’s walking around now and making tea. Her smile is crooked but she said it’s always been crooked, and she’s not weak, but her heart is beating rapidly.

Diastolic Reading High on Blood Pressure?

Question posed by Shaylee: Diastolic Reading High on Blood Pressure?
My blood pressure reading yesterday was 120/92. My diastolic reading has been high for awhile now. My doctor has yet to do anything about it. I’m a 18 year old female, what should I do to get this # back down. Should I be concerned.

Selected answer:

Answer by Hey
I don’t think that you should be concerned….I really wouldn’t be very worried as long as your not in the 100′s!! If you wanted to lower it you could always exercise and watch what you eat, low sodium foods. Good luck, but that really isn’t very high I wouldn’t be too worried, again just small life style changes could fix it. (mine is much worse…like 100-120′s on the bottom, but mine is b/c of my kidneys lol, so lifestyle change would do less for that)

Do electronic blood pressure monitors give false high readings?

A question from Vik-as: Do electronic blood pressure monitors give false high readings?
I have noticed that electronic high blood pressure monitors give me higher readings than I get in the doctor’s office. A couple of people I have talked to said the same thing. Have any of you noticed this?
johnnylakis- I am referring to the ones that I use at home. The one I have, though, does happen to be from CVS.

Most comprehensive answer:

Answer by johnnylakis
If you mean the ones at CVS and Walmart where you stick your arm in, they are unreliable because they are over used and not serviced. If you mean the kind you buy and use at home, those are reliable and give a reasonably accurate reading.
