What can be done to raise blood pressure/what are the causes of low blood pressure?

A question asked by noughts-and-crosses: What can be done to raise blood pressure/what are the causes of low blood pressure?
My nurse today checked my blood pressure and it was cosiderably low. Just below the average though, not servere! I would like to know, what can I do to perhaps raise it a bit (I feel tired all the time etc) and what are the causes of blood pressure (I could do the opposite of these causes to perhaps increase my blood pressure).
Help appreciated! thanks! : )

If the doctor wasn’t concerned then you shouldn’t worry about it. Some people, like myself, have low blood pressure. As far as being tired, talk to your doctor. It could be a number of things which doesn’t necessarily have to do with your blood pressure. Good Luck!

What’s the best way to keep low blood pressure up?

A question from Renji Kazuma: What’s the best way to keep low blood pressure up?
I have two twin brothers, and just recently one of them found out either last year or some time this year that he has low blood pressure. Our father had a this same case, even before he was killed by some unknown killer. I love my brother and always worry about him, but it’s not easy to keep a watchful eye on him if his blood pressure gets too low and I don’t know how to help him get it back up. His girlfriend is even worried about him cause a friend of ours mentioned it to her. My other twin brother is also worried about him, and he isn’t sure what to do to help. Any advice or suggestions or anything in particular would be good. My bro’s just in his twenties and he’s got a long life ahead of him.

Answer by Kris L
You may be ‘worrying about nothing’ … in most people having ‘low blood pressure’ is a very GOOD THING … and if it was ‘low enough to be a problem’ his doctor would have had him admitted to a hospital or given him a prescription …
The ‘only thing’ about having low blood pressure, is sometimes you’ll ‘feel faint’ when you stand up too fast, or are standing in one postion too long … so tell your brother to ‘stand up more slowly’ and to ‘move around’ and not lock his legs when he has to stand in one place for long …
I’m sorry that your dad is ‘dead’ but I doubt that his ‘low blood pressure’ contributed to that death … and this is NOT YOUR DAD, but your brother … so ‘stop worrying’ and just ‘love him’ as your brother, okay?

i have a blood pressure reading of 147/61 what does this mean?

A question from john: i have a blood pressure reading of 147/61 what does this mean?
it seems every time i do a blood pressure test the top number always seems high but the bottom one is on target or even lower that any reading i have come across on the internet.

Most detailed answer:

Answer by sonj
It means the pressure in your heart when it is contracting is a bit high, but ok when it is relaxed.
Keep a check on cholesterol too.
Try loosing a bit of weight if that is an issue and exercise gently to get it down.
You may need medication if it has been up a while

How can I quickly and dramatically lower my high blood pressure?

Question posed by afraidtoland: How can I quickly and dramatically lower my high blood pressure?
My psychiatrist told me that if my blood pressure stays high he will not want to prescribe my Adderall anymore. Thing is, I’ve always had high blood pressure, it aint the Adderall doc. But he says he has a hard time prescribing it when it tends to increase blood pressure. I have two days til my next visit with him to fix this. I still smoke, I still drink, I still eat salty food…what’s a boy to do?
