High pitched sounds don't come from these machines. You may want to buy a new one.

Advantages for invasive monitoring include:

More accurate blood pressures

Ability to measure blood pressure in someone that we cannot use a cuff on (morbidly obese patient, for example)

Ability to see beat-to-beat blood pressures - important during surgeries where massive blood loss is possible, or any time that serious pressors (blood pressure up medicines) or anti-hypertensive infusions are used.

Ability to draw arterial blood samples from the line

Ability to measure blood pressures during cardiopulmonary bypass (no pulses, so cuffs won't work)

Invasive blood pressure monitoring gives you accurate, and minute-to-minute, data. It's used in intensive care fairly commonly, where accuracy of non-invasive readings may be problematic.
Unfortunately, that means you have to have a catheter inside an artery. All you have to do is clot one off (or worse, clot off the artery in somebody without good ulnar circulation and lose the hand), or simply have one come loose and spray you and the far wall with arterial blood to understand some of the drawbacks.

There is no such thing, ask away!
120/80 is the average for blood pressure.
True your top number is a little on the high side, but going to the doctors can easily increase your blood pressure. It's called 'white coat syndrome'.
It might be an idea to stop in at one of the free places to check your blood pressure on your own every once in a while, it will ease your mind.
If you know there are family members with diabetes, then you can start now to try to prevent/delay.
(You don't know if you inherited the gene?)
Drink water, eat healthy (balanced diet), and regular exercise.

I've looked into this also. The best is to make sure you get one for the arm, not the wrist as that is more accurate. Omron offers many choices from manual to automatic. I've included a link from the pharmcacists trials and it gives lots of information. Check it out.

I am a 6 ft. 67 yr. old male, non smoker (ever) and weigh 175 lbs and consider myself in good shape as I exercise regularly. My resting HB is approx. 75 to 80. My blood pressure is normally slightly elevated at 135/90 but if I briskly walk for two hours my BP is frequently 113/73. Is this of concern or normal?
