Why do I only have below normal blood pressure when lying down?

Question by Sue T: Why do I only have below normal blood pressure when lying down?
What causes someone to have low blood pressure only while lying down but healthy normal while standing or sitting? Is this dangersous 92/56 while lying down.

your blood pressure normally goes down a little when you ly down because you don’t need as much pressure to pump blood to your brain. Normally the change is not that much but is not likely a problem if you aren’t blacking out or getting dizzy when you stand up.

    Blood pressure is measured by measuring the blood flow from the heart and back to the heart.
    Standing up your heart would exert more strain to pump blood towards the extremities.
    Lying down would require less pressure. Gravity not as strong.

    No, this is not dangerous. While you are lying down, your heart does not need to work as hard as when you are standing or moving. While lying down (resting) there is also less of an oxygen demand so your heart does not need to work as hard to pump the blood around delivering oxygen.

    It is normal because your body is at rest, if you get up and move around and it does not go up that is when you should be comcerned.
