I am at a healthy weight, I exercise semi-regularly (school gets in the way sometimes). But my blood pressure is usually around 140/80. My doctor gave me Diovan, but I’m a little hesitant to take a blood pressure medication after some horror stories I’ve heard. What do you think?

could be stress related. when you get stressed out, it causes your body to go all screwy. could also be genes. sometimes it just happens. could also be diet, try working with that first.
you may just have some anxiety or your getting stressed, those things can be some factors that may cause high blood pressure
just relax and take the medication, if it doesn’t improve, then see a doctor again
i’ve been on diovan 160 for over 2 yrs. no problem. watch your sodium intake. keep your weight down and exercise regularly. i’ve been 120/80 ever since
I am 22 my blood is always a little high when gets causally i usually stressed when go to the doctor but I think you should take the meds then go back to the doctor to see if there is improvement.
It could be stress or it could be something inherited. I would do some research on my meds before I took them if I was worried. Other than that I would take the meds.
It could have something to do with stress
it also has things to do with your family history too.
Maybe someone in your family has high blood pressure
As for the meds
you should take it if it will help you but if you are parrinoid keep a close eye on your self but don’t get to parinoid.
Sounds like a combination of stress and genes. I am 40 and have taken Dyaside for my blood pressure for a decade and it works for me.
Keep in mind once you start blood pressure medication it is generally a lifetime commitment.
In fact, most cases like you, that have high blood pressure at an early age is because inheritance, because one of your family members have such a disease.
Have more vegetables and fruits instead of meat and fried food would be better for your heath
good luck
It is probably your diet. Many people are under the misconception that high blood pressure only affects older people. In fact, many people in their 20′s have high blood pressure or pre-hypertension. You have to cut down on all sources of salt, including processed meats and snacks. So many foods have hidden salt, so it’s hard. For example, even butter and butter substitutes contain salt. V-8 vegetable juice contains over 2000 mg a salt, more than 10 times what your body needs daily.
Try eating foods that lower blood pressure, which are foods high in potassium. Good luck to you.
