I have a at home monitor I gotbecause I was worried about my Blood pressure, I was taking a drug for depression Cymbalta and started having higher then normal Blood pressure readings. My normal has always been 120/80 or close to. Since then I stopped taking Cymbalta for about 3 or 4 months now. I use the monitor but it still seems high. When is the best times to check it, and how often to get a accurate blood pressure reading? I was running around with my husband outside came in and it was 151/87 that is really high right? But my moms says you can not check it after exercising like that. So maybe thats what it is. or after eating right? I keep having these headaches in the back of my head! If I am running around outside, I can not figure out if its my blood pressure or my sinuses as I have constant problems with my sinuses. It is ont he sides like on the temples and in the back of my head, sometimes on the top??? Any Ideas?

A lying resting then standing are two tests I’ve had done. They are obviously going to be different. I too take Cymbalta for anxiety attacks and depression. If that’s why you started taking it, did you notify your Dr that you are off of it? Reason being it takes a good month for a medication like that to get in and work for you. There is also a detox period that a Dr prescribes when coming off of one. A gradual scale down and perhaps a lihter med. Cymbalta directions state DO NOT QUIT TAKING without your Dr. acknowledgement as serious side effect can arise. I do not know yours but mine are anxiety and sleep disturbance which really heightens Blood Pressure. Please be careful and if you are not seeing a therapist or Psychiatrist in conjunction with your PCP and this drug, ask for a referral. Thru practical rehabilitation & therapy there is life after depression.
I wish you health & God Speed in the New Year!
well to get an accurate check on b/p do it first thing in the morning when you first wake up 151/87 is kind of high but not to high it’s the bottom # you need to look out for really well the top also if it gets majorly high. no do not take it well you can after exercising but your b/p will always be higher when you’ve exercised so wait for like 1 hr then check it and like 30 min – 1 hr after eating. your b/p could be causing head aches and it can also cause you vessels in your eyes to burst and look all bloody. if your Dr is really not worried about it i wouldn’t worry to much or you could bring it up to him or get a second opinion good luck
You should discuss any side effects you are experiencing from the Cymbalta with your doctor. He will be the best one to decide if it’s a problem, and whether he wants to try switching you to another drug.
You need to have a Doctor monitor your blood pressure often , because you may need blood pressure medicine. To be honest I have High Blood Pressure those monitor you buy don’t give you a correct reading. You take it on the home monitor twice in a row and it will almost never give you the same blood pressure level. They are just not good enough to rely on for your health.
You should check your blood pressure daily. Wait at least a half hour after exercising. if your pressure remains high, check three times a day. If you continue to get high blood pressure readings, see a doctor. Ask if Atenenol is right for you. If you can get your pressure at 110/70 much better. Your sinuses usually show pain above your eyes, across your forehead.
Mom is right! Certain things will raise your BP. Smoking, exercises, stress… You should rest at least 10 minutes after such an activity, before checking your BP. If it is high, you should discuss with your doctor and make a plan. I recently used apple cider vinegar (one teaspoon) in one cup of water (instead of coffee in the morning…coffee can increase BP), a banana a day, stress management. Tomatoes are also good for lowering BP, Flax seed, Samon..I lowered mine with diet, I already exercise. Are you on any other medications that may cause your BP to raise? Of course no salt. and a lot of foods have sodium… avoid canned foods, read labels on everything… better yet don’t eat stuff with labels… fresh is best. Perhaps everyday day in the morning is a good time to check your BP. If normal for a week, then go to once a week. If normal for a month… then once a month…so on… Of course call your doctor, or go to a free clinic if it is over 140/90, take it three times a day.. kep a log for your doctor…and if you keep getting headaches, you may need to see the doctor anyway… could be BP or could be food allergies or a number of things. There are so many questions I would ask… did you gain weight? If so, sometimes losing it will bring the BP down, but weight gain doesn’t give you headaches. Could be they are or aren’t related. Best to see your doc.
