Low sodium diet. Quit smoking. No caffiene. No soda. All-natural foods.

The low salt is really hard… makes things taste boring. Mrs. Dash spices are great!

I am a cardiac nurse. If your pressure is that high you probably need medication. Some of that depends on your age. According to the American Heart Association, the new normal high blood pressure is 120/70. It used to be 140. So diet alone would be nearly impossible to lower it to the target range. You should buy a blood pressure cuff (they can be relatively inexpensive at most drug stores) and monitor your pressure daily and at different times of the day, such as when you wake up in the morning, after exercise, etc. Keep this in a journal to share with your doctor. Whatever you do, do not ignore it. It will have devastating consequences in the long run.
