systolic is the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats inward (contracts) diastolic is the pressure when your heart is relaxed. they are indicators of how hard your heart has to work to perfuse your body.
well i think systolic means heart contracting
and diastolic means heart relaxing
The top number, which is called the systolic pressure, shows the pressure in your arteries when your heart is forcing blood through them.
The bottom number, called the diastolic pressure, shows the pressure in your arteries when your heart relaxes.
in order to assess blood pressure, the monitor presses on the veins, and works out what pressure is required to stop blood flow
systolic – the pressure, in millimeters of mercury, required to stop blood flow altogether
diastolic – the pressure, in millimeters of mercury, required to restrict blood flow
Systolic is the Top Number. It is your heart at work.
Diastolic is the Bottom Number. It is your hear at rest, between beats.
Hope that helps!
Systolic is the pressure in the arteries of your body when the heart is at full contraction.
Diastolic is the pressure in the arteries of your body when the heart is at full relaxation.
Systolic blood pressure refers to the pressure of blood in the artery when the heart contracts. It is the top (and higher) number in a blood pressure reading.
Diastolic blood pressure refers to the pressure of blood in the artery when the heart relaxes between beats. It is the bottom (and lower) number in a blood pressure reading.
The two are basically the range within which your heart is working. So, they are two different measurements of different, but related things, so the overall blood pressure has to list both to give the full picture.
Systolic pressure is the pressure in the arteries (blood vessels carrying oxygenated blood) when the heart contracts (systole). Systolic pressue will be higher.
The pressure in the arteries fall when the contraction is over and the heart is relaxing (diastole) as no blood is being pumped into them during diastole. The pressue then is called diastolic pressure and will be lower.
The difference between the two values is known as pulse pressure.
