Isn’t 40mg of Lisinopril too much to prescribe for someone just diagnosed with Stage 1 Hypertension?

blood pressure miracle

Sandra E asked:

I was diagnosed only 2 weeks ago and given 12.5 mg/day of hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic) which didn’t work; my bp fluctuates between 100/70 to 149/107. I do not have any other health conditions except age 63, some overweight and a little high cholesterol.

It may be a little high. Are you still on hydrochlorothiazide? If you are taking both the lisinopril and the diuretic, monitor your BP closely. See if it’s too low or if you start feeling dizzy or tired. Your big problem is the diastolic BP (the one at the bottom), if it goes up to 107, that’s a lot. Maybe that’s why he gave you the 40mg dose. I recommend you to take it as he told you, see how it works for your hypertension. Even if it’s stage 1, that 107 can be a problem. As I told you, if you start feeling dizzy, tired, tell your doctor immediately. Get a BP measuring machine and keep track of your BP. Optimal BP is 120/80, so keep track of it. Hope this helps. Don’t do changes in your therapy without telling the doctor. If the doctor doesn’t know, he or she may give you more meds, when all you need is dose adjustment.
