cinderella asked:
The liver panel was elevated. Is this normal for someone with diabetes? I am also taking lipator, lunesta and Lisinopril. The doctor just started me on Metformin. What can the elevated LFP mean?

The medications you’re on can cause problems with the liver especially if you are a diabetic. This is why it’s a good idea to have those blood tests done at regular intervals. Your doctor should be able to answer your questions for you.
Check with your doctor about taking lecithin which can be found at health food stores. It contains phosphatidylcholine which is known to help protect the liver. I’ve taken it for years and still have good liver function tests. Put phosphatidylcholine into your search engine and read up on it, take a copy and show it to your doctor and see if he says to try it.
He ordered liver function tests (LFT) because you are on Lipitor
Lipitor is a good medication for reducing cholesterol. And its especially important for diabetics, since diabetes increases your cholesterol.
However, lipitor sometimes can cause liver problems. Your doctor orders LFTs just to assess how your liver is doing while you are taking Lipitor. If the LFTs are not too elevated, then its ok. Its ok if the LFTs are a little elevated
Don’t worry too much about it.
