High blood pressure during pregnancy?

Michael’s Mommy born 3/23/09 asked:
I’m trying very hard not to worry, because I know that stress only makes my blood pressure higher. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and my last OB visit they said that my pressure was high, but there were no proteins in my urine. I bought myself a blood pressure monitor and I check my pressure periodically. If I do something like sit with my feet up for an hour or go for a walk I’ll check it after to see how different activities effect it. I’ve been keeping a little journal to show my OB next visit. Anyway, I got my highest reading yesterday after doing some house cleaning which involved minimal physical strain (144/110) at about 3pm, then later that evening, at about 10:30pm I measured it again after I’d been sitting down and relaxing at it was a lot lower (113/62). I’m concerned these findings will lead my doctor to put me on bed rest, because that’s what everyone is saying will happen. I’m the only source of income in my house and I don’t have enough sick leave to take the next 3-5 months off work. Has anyone had a similar situation? What happened? What did you do? I’m going to do what’s best for my son, but I’m hoping that we can avoid losing my income.
So far nothing has worried me to the point that I would call my OB. As for work, I actually get paid to sleep, so I suppose I could continue to work with bedrest. I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar situation.
Ok, well I’m glad someone with experience finally answered. My blood pressure is typically 140/85 when I’m up and around, which seemed so high to me… and 130/80 when i’m resting, sometimes lower, but i haven’t really tried to actually have “resting” times, i forget and do something then remember to take my pressure.

keep of your feet when you can at work if you have a desk job then keep your feet propped up on a stool under the desk keep stress to a minimal and stay away from salt.
Unless your doctor asked you to track your BP, I would really calm down about it, or you are just going to stress yourself out…just like you said.
If your doctor had a real concern about it, she would have told you to limit your activites, and made specific requests.
If you have true concerns, as well…you need to call your doctor immediately. You shouldn’t wait until your next appointment.
I am in the same boat and I am 14 weeks pregnant. My blood pressure is exactly like yours. High in the afternoon 140/90 and lower in the morning 130/80. I have talked to my doctors about this and they don’t seem as worried as I am . I have been told to take my blood pressure in the morning and evening and of course that’s when it’s the lowest. I would be interested in hearing what others have to say.
I think I answered one of your questions a few days ago. So, I’m glad you got a blood pressure monitor and are keeping track of your blood pressure.
I had high blood while I was pregnant but the doctor didn’t put me on bed rest until my blood pressure was typically 140/90 on a regular basis and 180/120-30 when I was up and around, so you probably just need to be careful and watch your sodium intake right now.
Talk to your doctor about it and be carefull!
Good luck and congrats!
