Hypertension and high blood cholesterol & triglycerides may cause heart attack, stroke and kidney failure. One can not control hypertension & high cholesterol by diet and exercise.

Gramma must both exercise + diet. One by itself will NOT work. Ask Grammy to go for a short walk with you everyday (today, 1 block; tomorrow, 2 blocks. Gradually get up to 12-16 blocks everyday, SLOWLY. She can test blood pressure for free at WalMart Pharmacy. She can also get free help from City-County Health Dept. & Heart Center at any hospital.

Avoid fried, greasy foods. Drink 6-8 glasses plain water everyday. Try Chinese foods. Google for ‘low cholesterol recipes’ & ‘low BP recipes’.

If not lowering Blood Pressure below 140/80 or cholesterol less than 200, Grammy is headed for BIG trouble! Proper exercise + proper diet can help her! Just do it! :)

    Hi there,
There are lots of recipes available, along with proper plans to follow to effectively reduce blood pressure.
Salt and sodium are commonly blamed for raising blood pressure so you want to look for foods that are low in sodium. Stay away from salty chips, use low sodium soy sauce when cooking and check the nutrition information before you pick up your favorite jar of tomato.
(TIP: If possible always buy fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits and avoid stuff that comes in a can because it’s packed with salt).
If you have to buy canned goods rinse the food off with water before serving. This works for canned vegetables such as peas, beans, and corn as well as canned tuna fish and fruit cocktail.
Oat and grain varieties such as Multi-Grain Cheerios or Kashi Whole Grain cereals are also great for lowering blood pressure.
High fiber foods are usually foods that lower blood pressure as well. Avocados, raspberries, grapefruit, sweet potatoes, bran cereal (or muffins), black beans, and lima beans are all packed with fiber. You can also sprinkle flax seed into recipes to increase your fiber intake and lower blood pressure.
Finally, try to remove meat from the diet as much as possible, as studies have shown that red meat eaters tend to suffer high blood pressure than vegetarians.
If you can’t completely cut meat out of your diet remove the fat before cooking, opt for skinless chicken breasts, and stick to white meat.
If you’re looking for a way to put all of this together into a recipe/diet plan to guarantee long term lower blood pressure, there’s a great blog post below about a non-medical approach (all natural) to lowering blood pressure…
…I think your granny will appreciate this as you mentioned she was not ready to use medicine?
    Either way, good luck!
