A question asked by Tom R: Can someone please help me understand this blood pressure reading? ?
I was walking for around 20 minutes, just before I walked into the store to take my blood pressure. The reading was 130/57. I cannot find a single chart on the web that is able to correlate my systolic and diastolic blood pressures. What do you think, is this good?
I am also athletic.
I am 19 and I weigh 162 lbs. with 7% body fat. I jog 4 miles every day.

Your blood pressure seems to be with in normal range, I would need to know your height, weight and age to come to a better answer. The next thing is you walked for 20 minutes. You seem to be good.
the american heart association recognizes 120/80 as “normal blood pressure” so to answer your question it is a little high and you should have i monitored by your personal physician but it is not major. you were also walking for 20 minutes before you took it. here is a website for the chart good luck..,.

That is an excellent reading, although the Diastolic pressure is just a tad low, but walking around for twenty minutes and still get a reading like that is good. Blood pressures fluctuate throughout the day. Maybe next time it will be different. I personally don’t have much faith in the electronic kits, I prefer the reliable old mercury readings. And also for your information, if you have a large arm you should use a large cuff. If you use a small cuff on a large arm the reading will be high, and vice versa. You don’t state your age, but an old rule of thumb for blood pressure is 100 plus your age, over 60 to 80. Some people do carry low blood pressures, but to low is as dangerous as to high. Yours is great. Good luck to you sir.
