Can high blood pressure cause a miscarrage?

blood pressure miracle

angel4nature asked:

I am 25 yrs old. Had two previous m/c before I had my son who is now four yrs old and he was two weeks late. But last week I found out that I probably had a missed miscarrage. I should have been 11-12 wks along but the sac was still empty in the ultra sound. Four days after that we got the test results that the HCG blood levels were going down. At one point my blood pressure was 140/86, two days before the empty sac u/s. I went to the ER for the blood pressure, but they just monitered the blood pressure and had me take a pregnancy test. Should they have done an ultra sound or fetal monitoring too….?

Can high blood pressure cause a miscarrage???

    Ask your doctor.

  2. Proudmommy says:

No. A lot of pregnant women have high blood pressure. The doctors will just keep a close eye on you

  3. hil30 says:

yes,it can stress the baby and you!

  4. Heavenly Advocate says:

Blood pressure that high, I would say no, but there is a point where your blood pressure can get so dangerously high that it causes a lack of oxygen to the baby and can cause it to die. It’s one of the things that can happen with pre-eclampsia….also the higher blood pressures can mean that the mother is at risk of dying herself which would mean of course the baby would die as well. But 140/86 isn’t THAT bad….I don’t think it could cause miscarriage…..but have you considered talking to specialist to see why you have had 3 miscarriages now? I’d be concerned about that.

I’ve had chronic high blood pressure since I was 17. 140/86 isn’t that bad of a reading. They get really concerned when the bottom number reaches 100 or more. Throughout my pregnancy I stayed on my medication (missed it here and there on accident) and had a healthy little (only 5lbs 7oz because of the meds) baby!

it might could if not controlled i’ve had it since i was 11 weeks and i’m now 30 weeks with good prenatal care you should be fine

Not only miscarriage but also the death of a person. Be always under treatment of an eminent Dr.
    Good luck.

  8. Greenis says:

Yes it can. I’m not a doctor, but I don’t think that high blood pressure was the reason for your miscarriage. 140/86 is higher than the norm, but not an extreme. Throughout my pregnancy my BP ranges from 120-140/70-85.

I’m very sorry to hear about your loss.

  9. Stephanie B says:

Generally high blood pressure will not cause a miscarriage. Talk to your docator about possible causes. Usually an early miscarriage (before 12 weeks) is due to a problem with the fetus, and not anything realting to you physically. Miscarriage is very normal and happens VERY frequently. Statistically 50% of women will have at least 1 miscarriage in their lifetime. One miscarriage does not cause you to be at a higher risk to have another miscarriage particularly if you have had a previous healthy pregnancy and birth.

I am so sorry for your loss! I misscarried in January, and it is so hard! I was convinced that the cause was sleeping on an air mattress at a friends and getting too cold… I talked to my doctor who said that was not the cause, but I couldn’t shake the feeling… It is totally normal to try to search for any explaination for this, but most likely they will not be able to pinpoint the exact cause.

  10. Holmes C says:

HBP when pregnant is a potential sign of pre eclampsia (sp) and that is a particularly dangerous condition for mom and baby. Sometimes it causes miscarriage.

Good Luck and talk with the Doc.

  11. literallydivine says:

yes it can if its not closely monitored throughout your pregnancy. so dont skip any appointments

  12. Cutie Pie says:

ask your doctor to make sure high blood pressure aint turning into stress on you and your baby

  13. Got curves? says:

High blood pressure can cause stillborn. I had to get induced because I had Preeclampsia.
