If your doctor wouldn’t talk to YOU, I’d get myself another doctor.
Whether you agree or disagree, why not leave your own thoughts below.

yes your bp is high norm is 120/60 you need to discuss it with your doctor more than likely he will require you to go on a lopressor which will decrease your bp he will also want you to change your diet and increase your exercises. you will also need to monitor your bp if he puts you on a lopressor daily….did you eat an excessive amount of salt or red meat before going to doctors?? this could cause an increase in your bp…..talk to your doctor hope all goes well.
Yes, it’s high. Some people have “white coat syndrome”, meaning you’re seeing the doctor, you’re tense, and your BP elevates. You can prove this by checking it outside of your doctor’s office several times. If it continues to run high, your doctor should be putting you on meds. Elevated BP can lead to a number of medical problems so it really should be treated if it runs high pretty consistently.
I’m surprised you had to peak at your chart. Just ask what your vitals are; after all, it’s your info and your body. Wondering what your doc and wife were talking about? Ask her. Stress can elevate your BP too.
All depends on your age and weight. Like mine is 130/110. I am 58 and I weigh 165.
158 systolic is ok. 108 diastolic is very high and dangerous. Yes, you’re in trouble if what you saw is correct. You should be feeling bad, and you definately need to be on bp medication, like yesterday!
Yes, that is very high. However, a true diagnosis of hypertension requires more than just that one BP reading. A few things that I question:
Are you overweight? The first step to BP control is weight. Even a 10 pound weight loss can help.
Next is salt/sodium intake. You need to be very conscious of not just adding salt to food, but how much is in prepared/pre-packaged foods (and beverages).
Caffeine and smoking are big factors. Anything that increases your heart rate will increase your BP. Smoking constricts vessels, among other effects, which increases BP.
There are 5 different types/categories of BP medications available, each group with different actions (effects). Your doctor my try a variety until you both find one that works best.
There’s one trick with these, and any medication, they don’t do any good in the bottles. So, please take them.
Monitor your BP. You can go to any fire station and they can take your BP (also have them count your heart rate) and keep a log with date, time, BP and heart rate. Make sure your BP is taken on the same arm, since variations between arms can occur.
Lastly, my other concern is why was the Dr. talking to your wife, especially out of your ear shot? There are laws (HIPPA) that prevent him from talking to ANYONE about your health, etc., even your wife, without your consent.
Ask your doctor questions–even if you have to write them down before you go in. Write them down as you think of them. Ask the med tech/nurse/doctor what your BP is…this is not top secret information and you should not have to sneak a peek at your chart to find it out. You need to know what it is!!
Good luck and take care!!
Yes it is high. My husband’s is running the same. He is having stress test Thursday. If they didn’t tell you it was high-call them ASAP. you should be on medication.
Normal B/P old days 120/80
nowdays 120/70 not 120/60
I would say that you are not in trouble because you care about your health, at least you have posted a question to ask about it. Are you on medications for High Blood Pressure? if you are then it’s time to change dose or add another medication, if you are only on 1 medication at this time, or maybe change to another drug class. you can’t imagine how adding a small dose of another drug class, there are 6 drug classes for treating HBP, can do dor your blood pressure.
What your doctor did with you?
