  1. Sam Fisher says:

the patient should not be moving

    quite environment as possible

stethoscope directly over artery (antecubital space -inside of arm at elbow)

  2. ems.junkie says:

If it’s being auscultated (when it’s being listened to with a stethoscope), the person checking the BP needs to be able to hear the Korotkoff sounds. The arm should, ideally, be in a relaxed position and not move while the BP is being taken (when someone flexes their arm, it’ll read as higher). The BP cuff should be placed appropriately as should the stethoscope (the stethoscope should be directly on the brachial artery).

Stress can contribute to a higher reading so if it’s higher at the doctor’s office than it normally is, it’s not really an issue.

The blood pressure, normally goes l¿slightly high, when you are at the doctors office (false hypertension or factitious high blood pressure).
Ideally, blood pressure shoul be taken by the same person preferably a nurse, a medical student, or a doctor him or herself, with the patient in the same position (sitting, standing lying on a bed etc) always using the same apparatus (sphynomanometer) and with a minimum of 10 days between on reading and the next.
As you see, readings can be influenced by taking you presure with different apparatuses, different people, and different circumstances……
High blood pressure is influenced by the age of the person also, and nobody will jump to conclusions because of a single BP reading…
By the way, the most reliable apparat for reading the BP is the mercury vased manometer (more cunmbersome and old, however always more reliable and precise)

  4. W W D says:

Your victim needs to be at rest, with the arm supported, and the cuff width needs to be of adequate size (2/3 the circumference of the arm).
