My daughter also has high blood pressure. Her cardiologist asked also to purchase an electronic blood pressure monitor. We got The Omron HEM 711A/C and it is extremely accurate( her BP readings using this device are similar to the one that she gets from her doctor office). The price is round $ 40.
So far we are extremely happy with this item.

I would rather suggest popping in at your local Pharmacy. They usually will give you a BP test for free or very inexpensively.
Oh my God NEVER use the monitor of your grocery or pharmacy! They are most of the time not calibrated. Kids are playing with it and they screw them up. Their readings are now considered not reliable, that’s why most doctors and cardiologists ask their patients to purchase their own home blood pressure monitor. I have the Omron HEM-780. It is close to $ 70. But I believe that you can get a decent Omron for only $ 40.
There is only one medical study that I know of which tested various home blood pressure units for accuracy and reproducibility. This study recommended either the Omron or the ReliOn. Consumer Reports rated the ReliOn as a Best Buy as it is less expensive. I must caution you that the unit must be one that is placed on the upper arm. Omron and ReliOn make wrist blood pressure units but there is no data on the accuracy and reproducibility of such units. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
