No they should not. Automatic BP cuffs should be used only when there is no manual cuff around.
They frequently give incorrect readings. They inflate then deflate then re inflate again. If the patient is hypotensive then give an incorrect reading. Manual BP cuffs are essential when trying to determine a pulses paradoxes. I have taken a BP manually in both right and left arms then checked it with the automatic BP cuff and found no correlation. This is my personnel opinion and that they are dangerous and they are garbage. In the unit where I worked we asked for them to be removed.
