  15. ieatpussy4meryenda says:

@bebespider he’s taking the BP by LISTENING to the korotkoff sounds. He’s not palapting it with a stethoscope. Btw, the new edition of Bate’s guide to PE acutally allows the use of the thumb in taking the pulses (esp in the carotid and the radial artery).

  16. softbrnskn says:

Lol.. Have you critical people even check blood pressure instead of reading about it. Yes you do not use your thumb when checking a PULSE. As far as checking a patient’s blood pressure your thumb does not conflict with the reading (knowing from experience) u do not hear the pulse in ur thumb at all when holding the stethoscope to the patient’s arm.

  17. zacko781 says:

    so informative thanks

  18. JennelleBelle says:

They are no longer teaching or using this method because it causes damage to the artery and are now using the two step method. Update.

  19. harrygats says:

@stephdgarcia he did not put the thumb over the steth moron

  20. dan813r says:

What about patients with poor circulation? One technique is to locate the brachael artery pulse point at the crease of the forearm, lay the bell over that point, and inflate the cuff till the pulse dissipates, then inflate the cuff 30 MMHG higher. I have an issue hearing the brach pulse through the stethoscope, is that due to poor quality equipment or poor circulation?

  21. durant1983 says:

He did a great job, i did not see him use his thumb..The thumb have a pulse of its own,do you think as a doctor he knows that, you’ll are so damn self-righteous, he is already a doctor, you’ll are just jeleous of him, keep up the great job Dr……Thanks for giving us your time.

  22. kentygal says:

call me dumb but i think the only time not to use your thumb is when checking a pulse. i really dont see where he went wrong

@bebespider his probably just a new student—the white coat tricks you :P

  25. thehealthstar says:

@meliexoxo I did not see him using his thumb anywhere–but yes it is true the thumb has it’s own pulse thats why you use the index and middle finger to take the radial pulse :)
