Why is it that everytime I bulk up to build muscle, my blood pressure is constantly high?

bob asked:

Is it normal for your blood pressure to be elevated (in excess of 140/85) while bulking up? I would like to gain some more weight, but everytime I bulk up, my blood pressure is always high and I have problems sleeping. Is there anyway to prevent high blood pressure while trying to “bulk up”?

Is a Raw Vegan Diet healthful for diabetes and high blood pressure?

Jim asked:

Is a raw vegan diet healthful over a long period of time, especially with diabetes and high blood pressure? I am trying to switch to a raw vegan diet, but my dietitian insists it is not healthful. Has anybody here tried it long-term, or know anybody who has? I’m wanting to lose a lot of weight, and I’ve been making a lot of salads, with cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, green bell peppers, celery, onions, carrots … and then I pour on a bunch of vinegar and lemon juice. It’s tasty, nutritious, and very low-calorie. It seems to be working for me, but my dietitian isn’t happy. And I didn’t even tell you what my primary care physician thinks about my decision to quit all my diabetes and blood pressure medications and just rely on a raw vegan diet instead of the meds … except that I’m going to have to find another primary care physician.

Blood pressure question?

br grl in ct asked:

On my mother’s side of the family almost everyone suffers from high blood pressure, my grandmother and an uncle recently passed away from high blood pressure complications. I, on the other hand, have had low blood pressure “episodes” (maybe 6 or 7) throughout my adult life, starting at about 22, with even some fainting. When I take my blood pressure it’s usually on the lower side, around 106/68. My mother takes medication daily for her high blood pressure. My question is, what are that chances of someone from my background being hypotensive? Is it a phase or pretty much the way it will be for me, I am now 30 and a little overweight? Also, I have a blood pressure monitor at home, what is the best position and time to measure it? One other thing being raised the way I was, I still avoid salt. I walk my dogs for an hour everyday. Should I be concerned?

Where can I find a tabletop blood pressure monitor?

MYSTICJ78 asked:

I need one that is more like the type you can use for free at the grocery store except a lot smaller. I found one made by Lifesource (http://www0.shopping.com/xPC-Lifesource_TM_2655_Tabletop_Automatic_Blood_Pressure_Monitor), but it’s too expensive. It CANNOT be the type that is used on the wrist or finger and MUST NOT be the kind where the cuff is connected to the monitor by a hose/cord.

What are the chances of being discharged from the military due to high blood pressure?

Peaches402 asked:

A friend of mine enlisted in the National Guard. He made it through his first set of physicals perfectly and is now at Basic Training. When he had phone privileges, he stated that he was found to have outrageously high blood pressure and may face either a general or medical discharge. How likely is he to be sent home and what might this mean for his military career?
EDIT: He told me about his blood pressure over the phone, not that he found it while on the phone.

Is it fine to take honey if we have diabetes or hypertension?

KHAIRUL asked:

I’m just curious, is it safe if we take honey while at the same time we also have hypertension or diabetes? Because I heard some people said it is not recommended to do so. As far as I concern, honey is a great medicine. I just want to help other people though. Thanks….

Why do my heart rate and blood pressure go up so much?

beanie_fiend asked:

I was taking 25mg twice a day of lopressor and 10 mg a day of lisinopril until about a week ago when I ran out. Since then I haven’t been able to get more medication. For the past couple of days my heart rate skyrockets and I get chest pain. I get out of breath, feel dizzy and weak. Sometimes my palms and fingers get bright red and feel like they’re on fire. Once I am able to afford my medication, I only have so many refills left before they run out. I had health insurance when I was married to my ex husband, but now that I’m divorced, I’m I no longer have health insurance. These episodes are scary and worry me. I checked my blood pressure and heart rate today and Walmart after walking in the door and to the pharmacy. Blood pressure was 135/95 and my heart rate was 124. Right now it’s 106 according to my blood pressure monitor.

If a resting blood pressure of 120/70 is O.K., is an active blood pressure (without resting) of 160/85 O.K?

JimT asked:

My systolic blood pressure is normally below 120 after resting 5 minutes before taking it, which I understand is O.K. If I take my blood pressure immediately after ordinary everday walk-about activities (I have a home blood pressure monitor) without resting for 5 minutes, it is often above 150 or 160, but goes below 120 after a 5 minute, or at most, a 10 minute sit down rest. Is this also O.K., do you suppose?
