If You Have High Blood Pressure Lower Your Cholesterol
June 29th, 2009If you have high blood pressure, in order to reduce your cholesterol level you should avoid or reduce the amount of red meat you consume and stay away from sausages and bacon. Avoid foods that contain saturated fats and if you are going to consume dairy products select products that are low in fat. Avoid using lard in your meals and if you are going to use oils select polyunsaturated oils or monounsaturated oils. Avoid or significantly reduce the amount of baked foods you eat such as pastry items and biscuits which are typically high in fat. Don’t use margarines or oils that include trans fatty acids.
Healthy Diet
If you have high blood pressure and you have been eating a healthy diet and you still have a high cholesterol problem your doctor might want you to take some medications such as statins. They work by changing the activity of the enzymes located in the liver in order to prevent the liver from producing cholesterol. Some people have high cholesterol partially due to heredity and they may need the help of statins. If you have been diagnosed with heart disease your doctor might recommend statins to lower your cholesterol level.
Soluble Fiber
If you have high blood pressure there are some food items that can help you reduce your high cholesterol level. Oatmeal can decrease you bad cholesterol (LDL) due to the soluble fiber in oatmeal. Soluble fiber can also be added to your diet by including items such as kidney beans, apples, brussel sprouts, barley, pears, psyllium as well as prunes.
Niacin is the closest thing available to a perfect treatment that corrects most causes of coronary heart disease. Niacin blocks the release of fatty acids from fat cells. Niacin plays a critical role in energy production, gene expression, and hormone synthesis. You cannot live without it. Niacin also tends to shift LDL particle distribution to larger particle size and improve HDL functioning. The intake of 3 grams Niacin for as little as two weeks can reduce serum cholesterol by 26 percent.
Some studies have concluded that adding walnuts to your diet can significantly lower your blood cholesterol level. Walnuts are filled with polyunsaturated fats and walnuts also have the ability to keep your blood vessels in a healthy condition and keep them elastic. Don’t eat too many walnuts a day since nuts are high in calories and weight gain increases your chances of acquiring heart disease. Also add some omega three fatty acids to your diet since they have been shown in studies to lower the risk of heart disease. Certain fish, walnuts, flaxseed, soybean oil as well as canola oil contain omega three fatty acids. If you have high blood pressure it’s important not to have a high cholesterol level.

What is a good brand for a blood pressure reader? Or does it matter?
June 28th, 2009I am about to buy to my parents a digital/automatic wrist blood pressure reader off of the Internet. My question is if there are major differences between brands or pretty much any I get from eBay for example would be reliable? Thanks!
I wonder if my blood pressure is fine or not?
June 26th, 2009I have high blood pressure and take 2 medications. I was told that it is better to buy a Home blood pressure monitor than checking it at the store which I did. I purchased the Omron HEM 780 supposedly the best about $73. Now this morning my BP at home was 129/86. I went to the store wait 2mn and the store BP monitor gaves me 153/103. I wait 3 mn and it gives me 144/94 , I walk come back and it gives me 135/98 , I rest for 3 mn and it gives me 126/96. What should I trust? My Home BP monitor? I just got home and my BP monitor gives me a 135/95. I am VERY worries and this is starting to get on my nerves as I am having too many discrepancies between store and home monitors. At the doctor office 3 weeks ago it was 130/86. Thanks for your time :
PS: I am even scared to walk now. I am male 47 6.2 156 pounds vegan
Sorry I mean I just got home it gave me a normal 135/85 not 135/95

What if you Could Extend your Life With a High Blood Pressure Diet?
June 24th, 2009Read the Ingredients
Unfortunately, given its prevalence, a good amount of the sodium you digest comes from processed foods. A good habit to develop, before buying such food, is to read the ingredients label. Unfortunately, those labels, with their multisyllabic words, seem like they aren’t written in English. You feel as if you need a chemistry degree to understand them. Well, to help, remember that foods that contain ingredients with the word “sodium” in them can be bad news. For example, take disodium phosphate and monosodium glutamate (MSG). The word “sodium” is visible. Miminize your use of such ingredients and foods.
Also, the US FDA , to aid people’s dietary choices, developed sodium guidelines. For example, “low sodium” equates to 140 milligrams or less of sodium per serving. Or, as another example, 5 milligrams or less of sodium per serving is “salt free” food. Google FDA sodium for the entire guide. If necessary, bring it with you to the grocery store to allow for quick and easy interpretation when you shop.
Further, highly processed foods often contain high levels of sodium, making them contributory to a high blood pressure diet. I can only imagine the thoughts going through your head now. You’re busy and have no time to cook. You rely on frozen dinners and canned goods to quickly whip something up for you and your family. Unfortunately, a good amount of these foods are laced with sodium.
The Infamous Salt Shaker – One of the More Prominent High Blood Pressure Causes
Finally, like most people, you probably grab for the salt shaker at the center of your dining room table to add some quick flavor to your sometimes bland food. And, to compound the matter, you may be adding salt to processed food that already contains high levels of sodium. So resist the “salt shaker” temptation. Perhaps you might even empty your salt shaker. Further, use natural herbs to add flavor to your food. Consider onions or thyme, for example. This may be hard to do, but it’s in your body’s best interest.
As you can see, sodium not only presents a high blood pressure health issue, but also is hard to avoid given our busy lives. If you look at your food labels, especially those of processed foods, you’ll start to see sodium everywhere. So remember to avoid ingredients with the word “sodium” in them as sodium can play a huge role in a high blood pressure diet. Also, use the Food and Drug Administration guidelines to monitor your sodium use. And put down that salt shaker!
Take these small, proactive steps and you are on your way to eliminating some high blood pressure causes and earning better health.

Diagnostic Set Blood Pressure Monitor: A Must Buy For High BP Patient
June 23rd, 2009There are several types of instruments that can help you to keep a track of your blood pressure. Some of these are:
1. Diagnostic set blood pressure monitor, generally provided with one set of spare earpiece and a diaphragm
2. Sphygmomanometer Blood Pressure Monitor
3. Diagnostic Instrument
4. E.N.T’s Set
5. Otoscope (Aeroscope)
6. Heine Kappa Diagnostic Set
7. Manual Digital Blood Pressure Monitor
8. Automatic Digital Blood Pressure Monitor
9. Halogen Diagnostic Set
10. Smart Speed Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Automatic Inflation
Instruments like diagnostic set blood pressure monitors are very useful to those patients, who have dangerous blood pressure levels. In many cases, monitoring might be required daily, sometimes, several times in a day. You can’t run to your family doctor, which in itself, is a time-consuming and stressful activity, every time for a check up. It is a psychological relief when you know how to check your blood pressure yourself. By doing so, you actually see for yourself the way your blood pressure is progressing. Or you can give correct information to your family doctor over the phone, without bothering about going to his/her dispensary.
